MEMORIAL DAY TRIBUTE       (author unknown)

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech.

It Is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, Who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN, who salutes the flag.

It is the VETERAN, Who serves under the flag.

Wisdom from the Word-Be strong and of good courage; don't be afraid, neither be dismayed: for the Lord your GOd will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)

SUMMER AND FURLOUGHS

Years ago students went to school until June, then returned for the new school year in September after Labor Day.  The summer was three months long.  Maybe with the crisis in our economy we should return to the past.  Many agencies in order to balance the budget have had to ask employees to take days off without pay.  Not new-when a company I worked for had eliminated jobs, combined jobs, and in order not to lay off any more folks we took 10 days in a specified time frame-averaging two days a month-yes without pay.  Authorized leave often called furlough is a scheduled period of time spent away from work or duty, often in recreation.

Budgets are there for a reason.  They enable us to be wise in our everyday life, saving money.  Modest living is wisdom.  It is good to prioritize every spending decision.

Wisdom from the Word-"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5)

JUDGEMENT BY GOD

Eli had spent his entire life in service to God.  But in pursuing his ministry he neglected the responsibilities in his own home.  In Samuel 3:13 the Lord speaks to young Samuel in the night...He is judging the behavior of Eli as a father -Eli knew his boys were irresponsible and did nothing to disipline them for improper behavior.  The words that stand out ..."For I (the Lord) told him (Eli) that I would judge his family forever because of the sin HE KNEW ABOUT...his sons made themselves contemptible, and he (Eli) failed to restrain them."

Like Eli, we are accountable for what we KNOW about!

HUMBLE YOURSELF

One of the great paradoxes of the Christian life is that when God sees your genuine humility, He exalts you.  When God exalts you, others will praise HIM FOR what He has done in your life!  Praise the Lord for He is righteous full of great grace and always just and honorable.  Be flexible and ready to do things the way the Lord would lead and guide according to His Word.  He will raise up a standard for your life and bring glory to His name in the process.

Wisdom from the Word-"For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." (Luke 14:11)

Jeremiah was chosen by God in a bleak time.  He stood as a shining star through misunderstanding and persecution.  There is always a price to be a servant of the most high God.  Serve on son and daughter of the Lord God.  He has a great accounting system and sees your labors and will reward you!

STRESS

Stress is the difference between what we expect to happen and what actually does happen.
