National Day of Prayer-May 6, WITHOUT GOD

In August 1984, Ronald Reagan spoke to a prayer breakfast in Dallas, Texas, and stated:

"We establish no religion in this country, nor will we ever.  We command no worship.  We mandate no belief.  But we poison our society when we remove its theological underpinnings.  We court corruption when we leave it bereft of belief.  All are free to believe or not believe; all are free to practice a faith or not.  But those who believe must be free to speak of and act on their belief, to apply moral teaching to public questions.

I submit to you that the tolerant society is open to and encouraging of all religions.  And this does not weaken us; it strengthens us...

Without God, there is no virtue, because there's no prompting of the conscience.  Without God, we're mired in the material, that flat world that tells us only what the senses perceive.  Without God, there is a coarsening of the society.  And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure.  If we ever forget that we're One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under."

Wisdom from the Word-"Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid..." (Joshua 1:9)

And all the people say AMEN.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

The man ahead of me at the grocery check out counter placed his bagged groceries in his cart, he told the store cashier that since today was his Birthday, he would like to have his purchases for "free."   She assured him that wouldn't be possible.  Then he continued well what if I do not have any money to pay for the groceries.  She answered pleasantly...I would expect you to do the right thing."  He laughed and paid for his items.  I commented on her wisdom.  As she scanned my purchases she said that she had decided this year to be a better person.  I was impressed she had sent a valuable message.  What would you say?  You never know who is listening.  What would you do?

Wisdom from the Word-"Obey my voice." (Jeremiah 11:7c)

Father God, thank you for this day, we praise you for all that has come to us through our forefathers.  We thank you for all the good we inherit daily.  We call for the blood of Jesus to flow back through our family bloodlines though-out history, that forgiveness wash away and purify the ground of Satan's attack.  We ask for forgiveness for all sins.  The patterns of sin-such as lying, unfaithfulness, deception, lack of faith, stubbornness, selfishness, disobedience. dishonor- we ask Jesus to destroy and transform on His cross at calvary.  We call these sins crucified, dead and buried.  We ask for resurrection life to flow to these areas in Jesus name.  "The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that HE might destroy the works of the devil," (1 John 3:8b) in Jesus name, amen.

GENERATIONAL SIN

Sometimes great trouble seems to plague a person's life and family.  It doesn't seem that the origin of the problem is in personal sin alone.  Sin and its effects may descend through family lines called "generational sin."

Generational sin and its effects come to us in three ways.  1.  The first, we may inherit our tendencies to sin through our genes or DNA.  2.  The second way sin descends to us is by example-children learn to become what parents are, rather than what they teach.  3.  The third way sin effects us, is in the Law of sowing and reaping.  Reaping of sin is seldom immediate.  Time is a major reason why children reap what fathers, grandparents and great-grandparents have sown.

God has worked from the beginning to re-establish His justice through the cross of Christ.  As we cry-"not fair God."  Whenever men will let Jesus Christ reap the dire effects of the law through forgiveness and the atonement on the Cross, God can prevent tragedy.  Even God obeys His own laws.  In case you missed that last point "EVEN GOD OBEYS HIS OWN LAWS."

Wisdom from the Word-The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that HE might destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3:8b).

DO YOU LOVE ME?

Most people want to know... Can you love me as I am?  Often we want others to change yet we want to be accepted just as we are.  Many people are in relationships just because they want to feel cared for.  When that happens they begin to blossom and grow-if I can trust you then I can trust God.  Love fills many empty places in our soul.  Being excepted is the first step-and if people are hurt often they reject others before they are rejected.  Shame, fear and control keep us in the drivers seat but don't let God take the broken things in our life and heal the pain we sometimes experience.

Wisdom from the Word-"Happy is he...whose hope is in the LORD." (Psalms 146:5)

Sounds really simple doesn't it.  Whenever our earthly resources dry up it's so we may learn that our hope and help are in God.

CONTINUING TO GROW

I recently attended a continuing education seminar/retreat.  Usually at the end of intense instruction I am very tired and am aware of information overload.   But I was so interested in each speaker that I probably felt more like a sponge-wanting to absorb all that I might need to learn.

Each speaker brought their career to the platform, filled with experience, incite, wisdom.  I came away from that nine hour day refilled with energy, power, and a renewed strength.  An inner confidence that I was unaware of was filled to overflowing.  God blessed me so much.

One of the most interesting things that was renewed was the blessing of researching our genealogy both spiritual and through my family lineage.  There is wisdom in seeing the strengths and weakness in a family structure.  The areas of both then are brought to the cross of Jesus and sanctified.  Real freedom comes through the cross, then wholeness through resurrection power (the power that raised Jesus from the dead)

Wisdom from the Word-"And he/she shall be like a tree firmly planted (and tended) by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in is season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper." (Psalm 1:3)
